Introducing: Memory Kits

Memory loss affects everyone in different ways. For some people, memory loss means struggling to remember where they set their glasses or quickly forgetting a conversation they just had with someone else. For others, memory loss is more severe, and it can mean forgetting a family member or even aspects of their own identities. While not everyone will experience memory loss or a memory disorder firsthand, most people will know, and perhaps have to care for, someone living with some form of memory loss. Thankfully, there are tools and strategies people can use to combat memory loss. The Library Center of the Ozarks is excited to announce one such tool for cardholders in the form of Memory Kits!

Memory Kits are multi-sensory kits that help evoke memories and stories in individuals with memory loss. These kits come with a variety of games and activities that encourage reflection and reminiscence in people living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive challenges. Some kits include familiar memory-strengthening games like Tic-Tac-Toe and Sudoku. Other kits include new activities, such as “Tell Me More,” “All About Us,” and “Let’s Chat.” Each activity is meant to inspire collaboration and conversation in families and groups with members who struggle with memory loss.

Each kit can be checked out for 21 days on an adult library card. They are great for senior centers and activities, retirement and Alzheimer’s groups, church gatherings, family reunions and get-togethers, grandkids and grandparents, and more!
