The Library Center of the Ozark’s rich history began in 1932 when a group of Presbyterian women united to form a study club. Motivated by a desire to provide books, education, and culture to the surrounding area, these women formed the Taneyhills Study Club, which later became the Taney County Public Library.
The library’s first location was in a small room located in the Branson Hotel.
In 1934, the library moved to an office in the Parnell Building on the corner of Commercial & Main Street in Branson.
In 1936, the library moved once again to the Civic Building on the corner of Commercial St. & Pacific St.
In 1937, a new Community Building opened on the corner of Pacific St. & Business Highway 65. The library operated alongside several Branson City departments.
In April of 1977, the library, a non-profit organization, built the library at its current location, 200 S 4th Street where the Library served the Taney County community as a private library for decades.
In January 2024, Taneyhills Library became the Library Center of the Ozarks, Taney County’s first public library when the residents of the Branson and Hollister school districts voted to approve a tax levy. LCO is currently operating in the same location; however, relocation and expansion ideas are being discussed.
LCO recently celebrated a one year anniversary as a public library and are busy planning for the future. Stay tuned for news and updates.
